Continuing this week, we celebrate First Eucharist (or First Communion) with many of our Year Three children and their families. While First Eucharist is a milestone for children, frequent participation in the Eucharist is necessary for them to continue to grow in their relationship with Jesus.
We pray for all the children who will receive their First Holy Communion this week.
I am pleased to announce that Mrs Andrea Abbott has been successful in gaining a classroom teaching position for next year at Mount Carmel Primary School, Yass. Andrea lives in this community and commutes each day, so I know this is a great move for her and her family. She will be greatly missed, and I thank her for her many years as a classroom teacher at Good Shepherd.
The position of classroom teacher has been advertised and will close next week.
I can also announce the Kindergarten Teachers for 2022:

School Fees 2022
Careful consideration has been taken in reviewing the fees for 2022 to continue to support our school’s requirements, while keeping increases manageable and fair for families in the current economic environment. Our Community Council has met and approved the 2022 budget, along with the recommendations from Catholic Education.
I can now advise you that in 2022, our fee for a single student will be $834 per term (excluding Building Fund). This is an approximate $5 increase per week.
Our fee combines Tuition and School levies and the increase will help us to keep pace with rising salaries and costs, to ensure our school continues to deliver the quality education for our students that you expect.
Starting in 2022, and continuing over the next three years, sibling discounts for tuition fees will be reduced. This will help to reduce overall fee increases.
Information packs regarding school fees for 2022 will be distributed to all families today. Please read the information carefully. I ask all families to return the signed and completed "2022 Family School Fees and Fee Repayment Schedule" form (yellow) by Friday 10th December. For questions regarding your fee calculations, please contact Helen via email email@example.com.
As always, if fees create financial concern for you, I would encourage you to make an appointment with me to discuss how we can help. Any discussion regarding fees is strictly confidential. If you have any questions regarding school fees for 2022, please feel free to contact me.
Semester Two reports
Semester Two student reports will be accessible through Compass Parent Portal only. Please note the school will not be printing and providing paper copies for families. It is therefore essential that you have downloaded and activated the app using your individual log in provided. If you are yet to activate the link or need support, please contact the front office.
Wishing God’s blessing on you and your families,
Season of Advent
The 2nd Sunday of Advent symbolises Faith with the "Bethlehem Candle" reminding us of Mary and Joseph’s journey to Bethlehem.
The 3rd Sunday of Advent symbolises Joy with the "Shepherd’s Candle" reminding us of the Joy the world experienced at the coming birth of Jesus was spread far and wide by the shepherds.
The 4th Sunday of Advent symbolises Peace with the "Angel’s Candle" reminding us of the message of the angels: “Peace on Earth, Good Will Toward Men.”
As a family, you may like to create your own Advent prayer space with a wreath and the four candles of Advent. Each week, students will pray an Advent liturgy as a year level to prepare for the coming of Jesus at Christmas. Ask you children what they have learnt each week about the Advent candles and symbols of the Jesse Tree.
Christmas Costume Day
On Friday 10th December (Week 10), Good Shepherd will be celebrating 'Christmas Costume Day'. Students are invited to dress up in their favourite Christmas gear and donate a gold coin for Vinnies to purchase hampers for families at Christmas. You could come as Santa, an elf, Mary, Joseph or the donkey, a candy cane, or even a reindeer. You are limited only by your imagination.
We are looking forward to seeing some great Christmas costumes!
Walking Together is an online Advent resource from our local Archdiocese, designed to help parents, carers and grandparents prepare reflectively for Christmas. It will be available in 4 instalments – one each week - of a 10 minute video and downloadable discussion questions. Use it whenever suits you, to reflect alone or with your family, or join an in-person or online group to discuss the contents with others. All information available at www.cgcatholic.org.au/ADVENT

We hope parents and carers are enjoying using the Compass Parent Portal. The Absences tile has now been removed from the SchoolZine app, and the Contact Us tile on or website should not be used to submit absences. Compass is the only method that should be used to submit absences.
As a reminder:
whole day absences should be submitted through the Parent Portal on the day of your child's absence (or soon thereafter). There is no need to email the school or the class teacher (unless necessary) for a full day absence - your submission on Compass is sufficient; and
partial day absences do not require a submission on Compass. An email to your child's class teacher and cc:d to the front office is required before the school day begins, informing the teacher that a student will be leaving the school before the school day ends. Parents will submit the absence on the Compass iPads at the front office when they collect their child.
Parents and carers are reminded that they must wear a mask when entering the administration building of the school. Masks do not need to be worn outside. Please see the ACT Health COVID-19 Current Restrictions webpage for the latest information on wearing masks at school.
Food and water bottles
Parents and carers are asked to please pack enough food for their children to last the whole day, as well as a labelled drink bottle filled with water.
Have a blessed week, Anna, Helen, Sue and Steph.
