Dear Community,
Thank you for your support of the swimming carnival last week. Sadly, the heavens opened, and things had to be cut short. We had a great few hours at the pool and it was wonderful to hear all the students cheering for their House teams. We will be presenting ribbons for races this Friday at morning assembly 1st March, for age groups years 8, 9, and 10 and the following Friday 8th March for age groups 11 and 12.
Attendance at school
It is a legal requirement for parents and carers to ensure your child attends school full time. Please remember to sign them in via the Compass kisosk at the front office if they arrive after 8:50am and sign them out if they are leaving during the day for any reason. Thank you for supplying an explanation to the classroom teacher via the Compass Parent app for full day absences from school.
Students leaving early/arriving late for therapy appointments (eg: Speech, OT, Psychology)
Regular/ongoing appointments should ideally be made out of school hours. When that is not possible, parents need to be aware of the implications for the young person and the learning/social opportunities they are missing.
Parents and carers of students who are leaving school to access appointments that focus on their health/wellbeing are required to apply for an Exemption.
To obtain a copy of the Exemption Certificate Application Form or for more information please email ExemptionCertificates@act.gov.au or call (02) 6205 3695. Please note that supporting evidence is required for all exemption applications.
Students leaving early/arriving late for sport or cultural activities (eg: dance, gym, sport)
Family travel, arts and sports participation are not considered exceptional circumstances and an Exemption will not be considered. It is a Principal decision as to whether these activities can be supported and approved to enable the child’s absence from school to participate in these programs. To do this, parents and cares must note their understanding of the cumulative effect of missing school and the impact this may have on their child’s participation, learning and engagement.
Please use the attached form to apply formally for approval for your child to access a regular arts/ sporting commitment or extended family holidays during school days.
Good wishes for the week ahead.

As we move through our second week of Lent, let us ponder and pray over some more Lenten reflections by Rina Wintour (Sacred Celebrations for Lent).
This Lenten Season is an opportunity to reflect on Scripture and identify the masks worn by certain characters within our Scripture in an effort to examine both the motivation and the consequence of wearing masks.
Masks, like myths, both reveal and conceal realities. Masks can give the illusion of power and mystery. Masks can also empower by reducing self-consciousness through anonymity. Masks can provide a clear indication of reality, or they can distort that reality.
MASKS are used to fulfil a variety of purposes:
- to cover up defects or inadequacies
- to disguise or hide emotions/feelings
- to show difference
- to portray a particular character or aspect of a character
- to conceal a true identity
- to create an element of mystery
- to exaggerate emotions
- to protect the body
- to make non-verbal statement
- to celebrate a particular cultural or religious festivity.
Lent is a time to take off our masks and look at who we are – a time to reveal our true selves to others. We strive for authenticity.
Let us end with a prayer shared with us from our Parish community:
Dear Lord Jesus
May each of us experience the Mystery in life and be open to God’s creative Presence in the world and receptive of the action and activity of the Holy Spirit.
Bless each of us with the strength of will and courage of conviction, particularly those of us who struggle to transform and renew our lives. Continue to send the Holy Spirit to be our guiding light, our protector, our Advocate.
Amen.
